Sean Pastuch is the Owner and Founder of Active Life, the only company in the world helping thousands of people to get out of pain without going to the doctor or missing the gym. He is a doctor, coach educator, coach to athletes, and creative development for a growing local and digital fitness/rehabilitation brand. Pastuch founded Active Life because he believed that the world deserves better solutions than the modern medical model can provide.

Where did you grow up and what was your childhood like? Did you have any particular experiences/stories that shaped your adult life?

Merrick New York. I had a great childhood. I remember in the third grade being upset with something the teacher was doing and my parents saying that they would support me in speaking with the teacher, but that they would not speak for me. They stood behind me as I opened up to my teacher. It taught me to speak for myself.

What is something you wish you would’ve realized earlier in your life?

It does matter what people think and your best isn’t good enough. I was treating everyone the way I wanted to be treated and I couldn’t figure out why my ideas weren’t catching on. It’s because no one wanted to be treated the way I did. Now I treat people the way they want to be treated instead of how I’d like to be treated.

What are bad recommendations you hear in your profession or area of expertise?

Any advice without context. I believe that the primary reason to pursue more education is to create the opportunity to ask better questions, not to have better answers.

Tell me about one of the darker periods you’ve experienced in life. How you came out of it and what you learned from it?

I was working 15 hour days running three businesses and none of them were making any money. My wife was carrying us financially and I didn’t feel a sense of dignity that I get from contributing. I ran an event that lost us $13,000 of the $15,000 that my wife had saved up. That was the day I decided I would always take my pursuits seriously and that I would focus hard on what I wanted.

What is one thing that you do that you feel has been the biggest contributor to your success so far?

Paying for mentorship and being a fast implementor.

What is your morning routine?

7 am, Cuddle with my kids (6 and 4 years old) for 20 minutes, cook and eat breakfast, workout (8:30 – 9:15), listen to a podcast for 20 minutes, start work.

What habit or behavior that you have pursued for a few years has most improved your life?

Prioritizing sleep.

What are your strategies for being productive and using your time most efficiently?

I stay in my unique zone of genius, and I avoid squeezing anything into my day that does not fit in that zone.

What book(s) have influenced your life the most? Why?

Life: The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey – It taught me a new perspective on how to be using simple rules.
Business: Blue Ocean Strategy by W. Chan Kim – It helped me define the niche I was serving
Money: Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki – It put my mindset around abundance into overdrive.
