Shellee Howard is a bestselling author and Certified Educational Planner. She has traveled around the world helping parents and students plan for their “perfect match” college. Howard is the owner and president of College Ready, an education management agency.
Where did you grow up and what was your childhood like? Did you have any particular experiences/stories that shaped your adult life?
I grew up in Laguna Beach CA and had the opportunity to travel often which opened my eyes to the needs of people around me. This ignited my desire to give and serve others in need.
What is something you wish you would’ve realized earlier in your life?
You can not take “stuff” with you when you die. Enjoy experiences with others.
What are bad recommendations you hear in your profession or area of expertise?
This is endless! There is so much bad information that is stressing families out.
Tell me about one of the darker periods you’ve experienced in life. How you came out of it and what you learned from it?
My husband of 28 years had an affair and ruined our family. He disowned the kids and I had to raise them on my own as well as put them through college.
What is one thing that you do that you feel has been the biggest contributor to your success so far?
Life long learner. Always willing to try something and keep an open mind.
What is your morning routine?
Wake up at 6:30 am, have my coffee, and read my Bible study, workout and then start my work day.
What habit or behavior that you have pursued for a few years has most improved your life?
Balancing work and family life – taking time for me.
What are your strategies for being productive and using your time most efficiently?
I am list and calendar driven and very self-motivated. I am a visionary and planner. I plan for short term and long term goals and then prioritize. I do not talk about it, I just do it!
When my son attended Harvard for 4 years for free, it changed his life and mine. My mission is to reach 1 million people and teach them how to get into the college of their dreams and graduate debt-free!
What book(s) have influenced your life the most? Why?
Do What You Love, The Money Will Follow by Marsha Sinetar – Helped me leave my job and start doing my own business.
